girlfriend, and detectives say she did not back to world. asia la'trice cutler is accused of killing donte harris. police say that shanda cure and another woman helped her carry it out and they are charged as accessories. cutler told police that she found her boyfriend shot in the head and found him bleeding in the alley. detectives say that she shot him in their bedroom. as the debate over gun control rages after the mass murders at sandy hook elementary school in connecticut, we have been looking at new information on gun sales year in maryland. barry simms as the latest numbers, and there is a noticeable increase? >> we have contacted maryland state police on the purchase of gun applications and it does appear that those numbers are on the rice. the bushmaster rifle that adam

lanza used in the newtown, connecticut killings was legally owned by his mother. he shot her four times in the head before going to sandy hook elementary school and killing 20 children and six female educators. calls for increased school safety, and at the same time, gun sales are on the increase. in november, there were more than 7200 gun purchase applications filed peeping >> we are projecting that we're looking at over 8200 barack applications being processed. >> more than 46,000 applications were processed. at the end of 2012, state police project 62,000 applications will be handled. state troopers will not speculate on why. some reasons are apparent -- the holiday season, some lawmakers proposing changes to gun laws.

the fda says it cannot be sure it is safe and effective. it could also be counterfeit. it was not manufactured in the proper way. operators of more than 4000 websites were ordered to stop selling unapproved drugs to u.s. customers. a majority of those websites were operated by canada drugs. doctors should only get botox from licensed u.s. pharmacies. now to the topic of obesity. it is the time we all seem to gain a little bit more is the holidays at. it can increase your risk for cancer. it would seem that eating less would help, but it is more complicated than that. even if we were to be the same amount of calories, there is still inconclusive evidence that it would reduce cancer risk. so, what can we do? >> it is an interesting

question. is cancer really caused by adult weight gain, but the city? over a lifetime, avoiding the weight gain will absolutely translate into lower cancer risk. >> scientists are still working to find a solution. maryland officials are confirming the first hypothermia-related death of the winter. it happened sometime between december 18 and december 24. the victim is a man from frederick county, about 65 years or older. officials are warning people to protect themselves as we head into the coldest months. cover your head, where layers of clothing, and make sure that clothing is dried. those most at risk are the elderly, the very young, and anyone outside for long periods of time.

calmer we will become. these clubs will be breaking up over the next couple of hours as well. as the winds diminish, that will be a good recipe to allow these clubs to drop into the 20's by tomorrow morning. our next storm is still a good distance away from us. we will get one day of dry weather before the weather comes in on saturday. we will probably get some snow out of it as we cruised through saturday. we are going to look at the gss model, for all you weather geeks. this is just getting started in the mississippi valley. we will take this into saturday afternoon. this computer model does produce some precipitation for us. the isobars are not packed together. this is a strong system. it will produce snow for us, but

it will be a lot weaker than the storm that came through yesterday. it is too early to say how much. we will start for testing that starting tomorrow morning. we will at least get a little snow out of that. by 7:00 in the morning, it will be breezy and called. it should be dry. the forecast goes like this -- a decrease in clouds and decreasing winds. the wins will eventually diminish out of the northwest to about 5 to 10 miles per hour. tomorrow, chilly, but quiet. the high temperature between 38 and 43. sunrise tomorrow at 7:26. it looks like the snow will start late friday night or early saturday morning and probably end in the evening on saturday. at least that is the way the timing looks right now. it will not be a blockbuster snow, but we will get some accumulation out of it. new year's eve into new year's

there has been such an increase, but some lawmakers are pushing to change gun laws. investigators are looking for your help looking for this man. he allegedly stole someone's credit card and use that card at a royal crown store. these are images from that store from out surveillance camera. anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers. officials are offering up to $2,000 in a crash -- cash reward. snow, sleet, and then the high winds moved in. bge has been working to restore weather-related outages as quickly and safely as possible and urges customers to call its outages line at -- bge officials say it is important to have a plan in place in case of an outage like building an emergency kit that

>> fema officials tell 11 years they are continuing to process requests for aid tonight as they were to help hurricane sandy beckham in somerset county. so far, the agency has sent $1 million to the area, but officials urged residents to use care in spending funds. >> covering the nation tonight, amazing video from a walgreen's in mobile, alabama. surveillance cameras caught a christmas day tornado in action. this had winds up to 135 miles per hour.

the tornado was 6 miles long and 200 yards wide when it slammed into power lines, transformers, and move cars around in the parking lot. things are back to normal, except the doors are boarded up. no one was hurt. a major drop in the number of officers killed over the past year, but in maryland we still have the highest numbers nationwide. the officers memorial fund across the country -- 127 state, local, and federal officers have died on the job this year, the lowest number since 2009 and the only time since 1960 that the number dipped below 130. texas is the highest with 10 fatalities. >> more concerns regarding the help of former president george h. w. bush. a spokesperson for his office says he is being treated in

the wind will settle down even further. tomorrow morning, it most likely will be calm. the wind chills are running in the 20's. that is what you want to dress for if you go out this evening, not these actual temperatures. 35 at the rising sun. by the time you wake up tomorrow, the temperatures will have crews back into the mid- 20's. it will be cold nevertheless. snow in the northeast part of the country right now. the wind is whipping behind this door. the further it gets away come not be quieter the winds will get over -- to further its away, the quieter the wins will get overnight tonight. it will be mostly clear by the time the head into tomorrow morning. here is the next storm that will visit us over the weekend, going across the southern plains. it will be a much weaker storm.

do not look for a blockbuster situation here. we will probably get some snow out of this. we are going to look at one of the models your. this is the gfs, for all you weather geeks. will take that time frame into setting up. you see that the pressure over the atlantic. this is not a deep area of low pressure. it will not produce the kind of precipitation that you would think up with a big nor'easter or anything like that. it will get stronger as it pulls away from us. still too early to say how much snow we are going to get out of this, but it is not going to be a huge storm. i am pretty confident about that. cold, temperatures drop back into the mid-20's. during the day tomorrow, partly to mostly sunny. there will be cloud ahead of the

worldwide. meantime, toyota expects to sell nearly 10 million vehicles this year, bouncing back from a disaster-struck 2011. the numbers released this week underlined toyota's motor corp. 's solid turnaround from the destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami in japan in 2011 that hurt sales and underlined the japanese automaker's ambitions. toyota recently reached a settlement of more than $1 billion to resolve hundreds of lawsuits from toyota owners who said the value of their cars and trucks plunged after the recalls. and finally, four major retailers agreed to recall baby recliners linked to infant deaths. amazon.com, bye-bye baby, toys r us are recalled nap nannies
